Heavy & Oversized Item Movers Vancouver

Need heavy item movers in Vancouver? Always Best Moving handles the pieces regular crews turn down: gun safes, power racks, treadmills, fridges, and furniture too big for the stairwell. We are based downtown at 422 Richards Street, we run 24 hours a day, and every job starts with a clear, no-obligation quote put in writing before we start, covering the crew, the truck, and the equipment. A heavy move here is a planning job before it is a lifting job. The dolly rating, the stairwell, the building paperwork. We sort all three before the truck rolls.

What a Heavy Item Move Actually Takes

Take a common job: a gun safe around 600 pounds coming out of a West Side walk-up. Past roughly 600 pounds the professional standard is a second mover plus rated lifting equipment, not just more shoulders. So we confirm the stair count before we arrive, then check the stairs, doorways, floor surfaces, and lift points on site. The safe gets emptied first. That cuts the weight and stops the contents shifting mid-carry. On some jobs the door comes off too. The stairs also have to hold the combined weight of the safe and the crew, which is why the check happens before the first lift.

On the stairs we run a stair-climbing electric dolly. The steel models are rated to 1,500 pounds, the motor does all of the lifting, and the brakes engage on their own. Both operators work from above the load, so nobody stands below a moving safe. The safe rides wrapped in blankets, tilted onto the dolly, and cinched with industrial ratchet straps. Tile gets plywood because tile cracks easily. Hardwood and carpet get runners. Stairs and door frames get clean moving pads taped in place. And one rule never bends: if a safe ever slips, the crew steps clear. No box of steel is worth a foot.

What we handle

Our Heavy & Oversized Moving Services

Gun safes, fireproof safes, jewelry safes, commercial safes, and small vaults. Under about 500 pounds a standard crew handles it. Past 600 pounds we add a mover and the rated gear: appliance dollies rated past 1,000 pounds, the stair-climbing motorized lift, J-bars and pry bars, lifting harnesses, and industrial ratchet straps. We confirm your stair count when you book, and we can unbolt and re-anchor the safe.

Safe and vault moving

Gun safes, fireproof safes, jewelry safes, commercial safes, and small vaults. Under about 500 pounds a standard crew handles it. Past 600 pounds we add a mover and the rated gear: appliance dollies rated past 1,000 pounds, the stair-climbing motorized lift, J-bars and pry bars, lifting harnesses, and industrial ratchet straps. We confirm your stair count when you book, and we can unbolt and re-anchor the safe.

Gym and fitness equipment moving

A treadmill runs 200 to 350 pounds and a power rack can pass 500. Ellipticals run 100 to 200 pounds, and a full plate and dumbbell set can clear 1,000 pounds total. Most doorways measure 30 to 36 inches and some machines run past 40 inches wide, so disassembly is normal. We photograph the console wiring before we disconnect it, fold and lock the treadmill deck, pull the elliptical pedal arms, 4 to 6 bolts per arm labelled left and right, and tape the hardware bags to the frame. Everything rides in blankets and shrink wrap on a dolly rated past 600 pounds.

Appliance moving

Fridges, washers, dryers, stoves, and dishwashers. A small washer or dryer weighs about 180 pounds and a big one up to 400. We shut off the water valves, drain the hoses, and fit the shipping bolts that hold a front-loader drum still, or pad the drum with foam when the bolts are long gone. Dryer vents come off and get bagged. Gas gets respect: the valve is closed and the line capped before anything moves. Fridges travel upright on an appliance dolly, and washers and dryers get levelled at the drop-off. If the old machine is not making the trip, our junk removal crew hauls it away on the same visit.

Oversized furniture and window hoisting

Some pieces will not fit the door, the hallway, or the stairs no matter how you turn them. That is when we hoist. The window panes come out and the frame gets padded. At least three people run the lift, two above and one below, with every corner raised at the same time so the piece never swings into the wall or a lower window, and nobody ever stands under the load. The landing area gets padded too. First we measure height, width, length, and the diagonals, because a tilted piece often clears a space the straight numbers say it cannot. Big jobs get a hydraulic furniture hoist, a platform lift mounted on the ground or on a vehicle.

Disassembly, packing, and pianos

Heavy pieces move better in parts. We break down racks, beds, and sectionals, bag and label the hardware, and rebuild everything at the drop-off. If the rest of the home is moving too, our packing services cover the boxes, paper, and wrap. A piano is its own trade with its own gear, so uprights and grands go with our piano movers.

Why Vancouver Books Always Best Moving for Heavy Items

Every dolly, strap, and lift on our truck has a load rating and the piece gets matched to it before move day. A 1,500-pound stair climber for the safe. An appliance dolly rated past 1,000 pounds for the fridge. Harnesses and J-bars where hands will not do. The stair climber turns a four-person carry into a two-person carry, and crew size sits in your written breakdown.

Most Vancouver towers want a certificate of insurance before your crew gets past the lobby, with the strata named as additional insured. We file whatever certificate of insurance your strata requires, 48 to 72 hours ahead, and time the heavy carry to your service elevator block.

How We Price a Heavy Item Move

One story, told straight. You get a clear, no-obligation quote agreed up front and put in writing before we start. The quote covers the crew, the truck, and the equipment: the dollies, the straps, the blankets, and the rated lifting gear listed above. Stairs, a hoist, or a street permit each shape the plan, and we spell out what each one adds before the day, not at the tailgate. No guesswork. The number at the end matches the plan at the start because the plan is on paper first.

We do not guess a figure over the phone and true it up later. A heavy piece gets a real plan first: the weight, the stair count, the doorway widths, the elevator slot, the parking. Then the written quote reflects that plan. If your building charges its own move fee or deposit, that money goes to the strata, not to us, and we flag it early so nothing lands as a surprise.

Nine Heavy Item Moving Tips Worth Knowing

01

Empty the safe before move day

It cuts the weight and stops the contents shifting mid-carry. Pack the contents yourself and keep them with you.

02

Measure the diagonals, not just the sides

Tilting changes what fits. We measure every dimension before we pick a route.

03

Photograph treadmill wiring before anyone touches it

A photo of the console connections turns reassembly from a puzzle into a checklist.

04

Find your washer’s shipping bolts

Most manufacturers include a set that holds the drum still in transport. If they are gone, tell us and we pad the drum with foam instead.

05

Book the service elevator the day you book us

Slots go in 4-hour blocks and fill 2 to 4 weeks out, and the heavy carry has to land inside your window.

06

Defrost the fridge early and keep it upright

Empty it, defrost it, and let the inside dry. It travels standing, never flat.

07

Never drag a heavy piece across tile

Tile cracks easily under that kind of weight. We lay plywood over the rolling path and runners everywhere else.

08

Count your stairs and tell us

Past roughly 600 pounds the job needs a second mover and rated equipment, so an exact stair count sizes the crew right the first time.

09

Leave gas lines to the rule

The valve gets closed and the line capped before a gas dryer or stove moves an inch. Never pull a live connection.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a heavy or oversized item?

Anything past a normal two-person carry. Safes run from about 500 pounds to more than 2,000. A power rack can pass 500 pounds and a full plate set can top 1,000. A big washer can hit 400 pounds. Furniture wider than a standard 30 to 36 inch doorway counts too.

Can you move a safe up or down stairs?

Yes. We use a stair-climbing electric dolly. The steel models are rated to 1,500 pounds, the motor does all of the lifting, and the brakes engage on their own. Both operators work from above the load, so nobody stands below a moving safe. We confirm your stair count before we arrive so the right gear is on the truck.

Do I need to empty my safe before the move?

Yes. Emptying the safe cuts the weight and stops the contents shifting mid-carry. Pack the contents yourself and keep them with you. On some jobs the safe door comes off as well. We can also unbolt the safe at the old place and re-anchor it at the new one.

Can you get a treadmill or home gym out of a condo?

Yes. We photograph the console wiring before disconnecting it, fold and lock the treadmill deck, and pull the elliptical pedal arms, labelled left and right. The pieces ride on a rated dolly in blankets and shrink wrap. In a tower we plan the whole job around your service elevator slot.

Do you disconnect washers, dryers, and stoves?

We shut off the water valves, disconnect and drain the hoses, and fit the shipping bolts that hold a front-loader drum still. If the bolts are gone we pad the drum with foam. Gas is different. The valve gets closed and the line capped before anything moves.

What if the piece will not fit the stairwell?

Then we hoist it through a window opening. The panes come out, the frame gets padded, and at least three people run the lift, two above and one below, with all corners raised at the same time and nobody ever under the load. First we measure height, width, length, and the diagonals to find the route that fits.

What will my building need from you?

Most Vancouver towers want a certificate of insurance on file before move day, with the strata named as additional insured. We file whatever certificate of insurance your strata requires, 48 to 72 hours ahead. You book the service elevator slot and we build the day around it.

How do you protect floors and walls under that much weight?

Tile gets plywood above and below the rolling path, because tile cracks easily. Hardwood and carpet get runners, with Masonite where the load is highest. Stairs and door frames get clean moving pads taped in place, and corners get guards. The protection goes down before the first lift, not after the first mark.

How is the price calculated?

You get a clear, no-obligation quote agreed up front and put in writing before we start. The quote covers the crew, the truck, and the equipment. Stairs and hoists shape the plan and we spell out what each one adds up front, so the number at the end matches the plan at the start.
